VARIETY: Aglianico del Vulture.

PRODUCTION AREA: Acerenza, PZ.

VINEYARDS: This vineyards are superb; low -trained and planted on the volcanic soils of the slopes of Mount Vulture at altitudes of up to 800 meters above sea level . The area is one of Italy’s most remote and poorest . However, as result of the volcanic soil rich in clay, calcium, nitrogen and tuff and the very old vines (over 80 years old) is an outstanding quality of the grapes, able to give the best expression of Aglianico from Vulture.

VINIFICATION: Double selection of the grapes in order to remove any traces of vegetable residuals on the bunch. Soft stalk-stripping and de -stemming . Then vinification in small wood vats, with maceration for 25 -30 days and manual pump – overs every 6 hours . Refining : 24 month in new barriques, where malolactic fermentation occurs.

SENSORY FEATURES: A dense and tarry red that glides on the silky palate, with mouth watering acidity framing flavours of blueberry puree, chocolate -covered cherry, vanilla, dried thyme and oak spice. An expressive version in a modern style, yet refined and harmonious overall, with the grippy finish echoing the ripe fruit and tarry mineral character.

BEST SERVED WITH: All dishes made with meat and seasoned cheeses, easily drinkable at anytime of the day.
